You can’t help but feel a little bit old when you’ve known someone for 20 years. It’s a typical small town story. Daniel and Mic have been in and out of my life for a long time now, depending on which phase we found ourselves in. It suddenly occurred to me that it had been some time since I took a moment to slow down, quieten all the noise and just hang out with my old pals.
This entire journey was so dreamy. On the morning of our Mount Isa maternity photography session, it happened to be overcast, so we decided to stay indoors and search their home for pockets of light in which to make magic. Once Daniel left for work, it was time for mama and Vann to steal a moment to themselves. Towards the end of the session, the sun decided to peek out from behind the clouds, so we finished up outside, allowing the rays of light to dance across her growing bump.
It wasn't long after that I received the news that their little bundle had been welcomed into the world. So I made my way up to their ward, excited to meet him and shoot our Fresh 48 photography session. While the medical team were busy at work, I sat back and took a documentary-like approach, striving to capture all those little details that can so easily be forgotten in the newborn haze. But I also ensured that those tender moments of 'hey there, we’re your new family' didn’t get missed either.
Then, once the new family had settled at home, we met for a final session. While we focused on baby Nash for the most part, it gave everyone a chance to relax and find their groove as a family of four. I captured them interacting, laughing, cuddling and just being together, enjoying each other’s presence.
I feel truly honoured to have captured these moments for my friends and I’m so grateful that through my work and their beautiful little boy, we’ve reconnected. They trusted in my creative vision and allowed me to guide them through the whole process.
Until next time...
