An insight into my recent portrait session with Cenedra........
What was the drive behind choosing to have this session?
For a long time I was just existing, I wasn’t in control of my life and I didn’t feel like I was really living. Finally, in October 2019, I decided to make some changes. One of those changes was signing up for a coach (the amazing Bec Gormly from Macros Inc). When I spoke to Bec for the first time, she asked me if I had any specific goals. I told her I wanted to do the ASMY bikini comp in March. To my surprise she agreed and so then we made a plan. I worked hard, lost 20kgs and then 2 weeks out from the comp - COVID hit. Bikini comp cancelled. I originally was going to do this photoshoot a day or so out from that, but life had other plans. Fast forward to December 2020 and I was finally in front of your camera! Particular thanks goes to the girls at Le Mua for being so supportive always, I have them to thank for my brows, tan and makeup. Credit to Emily from Salon Bronze for my hair too, she knew exactly what I wanted for this shoot!
Have you always been body confident?
Absolutely not! I was insecure, and had an overall negative mindset. Negativity feeds negativity so all aspects of my life were not so great. I’m SO glad I stopped that path and redirected my life. Now I feel a lot more comfortable with who I am physically and otherwise, and I can tell you that other aspects of my life have improved as a result.
How did you feel leading up to our session date?
Nervous, excited, anxious, excited, scared, excited haha! I certainly had moments of doubt but they were mostly fleeting thoughts. I knew that years from now I would regret not going through with the shoot.
When you received the images, what feelings washed over you?
I could hardly believe it was me, so disbelief initially. It also felt incredibly freeing to be accepting of my body and everything that makes me who I am. It was as if I was seeing myself from a different perspective.
Would you encourage other women to celebrate their bodies in this way? Why?
100% - if you ever have the opportunity, DO IT. I have had a number of women mention that they could never do it themselves. Yes you absolutely can and I guarantee that you won’t regret it. You will learn things about yourself and gain a new appreciation for everything that you are.
Have you ever seen an old photo of yourself and looked back in shock, thinking “I can’t believe I used to think I was fat/was insecure/didn’t like how I looked etc”? Do. The. Shoot. I promise it’s worth it.
When I’m 80 I’ll be sure to mention to anyone that will listen, that I did a lingerie photoshoot once haha!
